Dr. Byron C Calhoun, USA
Biography
Dr Byron C. Calhoun, MD, FACOG, FACS, MBA is a specialist in the management of high-risk obstetrics and the medical complications of pregnancy, who has managed thousands of high risk pregnancies including adolescent females. He is Professor & Vice Chair in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology in West Virginia University-Charleston. His practice and clinical research is concentrated on pregnancies complicated by maternal and/or foetal disease, and he is a specialist in maternal-foetal medicine.
He has authored 68 peer review articles in the obstetric and gynaecologic literature, has presented 100+ scientific papers, and participated in 40+ research projects. He is also a peer reviewer for various medical journals including the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, The American Journal of Managed Care, Journal of Maternal-Foetal Medicine, Foetal Diagnosis and Therapy, and Journal of Reproductive Medicine
Dr Calhoun is also an original author of the perinatal hospice concept which provides a multidisciplinary care to families with a fatal prenatal diagnosis.
Prior to moving to Charleston in 2006, he was Clinical Professor in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Illinois at Chicago, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, College of Medicine at Rockford, Rockford, Illinois (2003-2005), Adjunct Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Midwestern University, Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (2002-2005), and Director, Maternal-Foetal Medicine (MFM) Fellowship, Madigan Army Medical Centre, Tacoma, Washington (1997 – 2004.)
